Three of the men arrested over a threat to kill prime minister Gordon Brown have been remanded in custody today after appearing in court on terror charges.

Ishaq Kanmi, 22, is accused of soliciting murder as well as belonging or professing to belong to al-Qaida.

And Abbas Iqbal, 23, and Ilyas Iqbal, 21, both face charges of possessing terrorist material.

The three men appeared before Westminster magistrates' court this afternoon and were told that they will next appear before the Old Bailey on October 1st.

They were originally arrested on August 14th at Manchester airport and in Accrington, Lancashire.

A 25-year-old man and a 29-year-old man, also arrested under the Terrorism Act in Blackburn and Derby respectively, remain in police custody.

It is thought that there was no actual plot in place to take the prime minister's life but threats were discovered on an extremist jihadi website.
