A fourth suspect has been arrested over a threat to kill prime minister Gordon Brown, police sources have said.

His arrest follows that of three men on August 14th, aged 21, 22 and 23. Two were stopped at Manchester airport, just before they flew to Finland. The third was detained in Accrington, Lancashire.

A police spokeswoman said today: "The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation by Lancashire constabulary and Greater Manchester counter-terrorism unit."

All four men are from Blackburn, Lancashire and are being held on suspicion of committing offences under the Terrorism Act 2006.

Intelligence services say they do not believe there is a specific plot to kill the prime minister, but threats have been noticed on extremist websites.
