Harriet Harman hopes parliamentary standards bill will pass through Commons smoothly

James Purnell has landed himself another job at think tank demos.

The former work and pensions secretary had found himself unemployed after walking out of the Cabinet in protest at Gordon Brown's leadership.

But the coup came to nothing and Mr Purnell was left twisting in the wind.

He will now take up a senior position at the Blairite research group, which recently took on Vince Cable and George Osborne to sit on its board.

The MP for Stalybridge & Hyde has not been heard from since his shock resignation.

"I now believe your continued leadership makes a Conservative victory more, not less likely," he wrote on the day.
