President Bush will see no protestors during his upcoming visit to the UK because police have banned a demonstration by the Stop the War Coalition.

Parts of Whitehall will be closed and the march will not be able to get close to Number 10, as originally planned.

Anti-war protestors are incensed by the news, with Lindsey German, Stop the War chairman and Left List mayoral candidate saying: "George Bush has been dictating British foreign policy for many years. Now it appears his security services are determining our rights of protest."

But police are insisting they have offered the marchers alternate routes. They stress the ban on marches in Whitehall is not politically motivated but to protect the president's safety.

The visit will come as part of a week-long trip to Europe for the American president. He is currently in Germany having talks with chancellor Angela Merkel.
