David Cameron says the results mark a "big moment" for the Conservative party
Conservative leader David Cameron has claimed the results from last night's local elections mark a "big moment" for his party.
Mr Cameron was speaking in the town of Barry, Wales, after the Tories secured victory in the Vale of Glamorgan.
The Tory leader said the results showed that the Conservatives were "back" and "really challenging" in Wales and claimed the victory was a positive endorsement of his party.
Speaking to reporters in Barry this morning, Mr Cameron said that the Conservatives were now offering people a "choice".
He also claimed there is not an "ounce of complacency" within the Conservatives and that the party would build on the positive election results.
Mr Cameron dismissed claims that the Tories were simply making gains on the back of voters becoming disillusioned with Labour.
He claimed that parties "don't win 44 per cent of the vote without people making positive choices".
