David Cameron has launched the Conservative's English local and European election campaign by urging voters to tell the prime minister "enough is enough".
"With every Conservative vote, the message will be simple, 'Enough is enough - you're the past'," he sad at a community centre in north-east England later.
"With every day that passes, this government is running our country into the ground.
"Borrowing eye-watering amounts of money, presiding over social decline, letting our politics descend into the quagmire - I promise you this, they cannot go on forever.
"Change in our country will come. And we can make that glorious day of change arrive all the sooner if on June 4th you give this weak, useless and spineless government a message it won't forget."
Political analysts are expecting Labour to receive a drubbing at the polls, and some anti-fascist activists are concerned that a low turn out combined with unpopular mainstream parties could see the BNP make large gains.
Thirty-four local authorities will hold elections, while voters across the UK will elect 78 MEPs.
