Andy Coulson will be witness in a Glasgow court today, to face questions from Scottish Socialist politician Tommy Sheridan.

Mr Sheridan is defending himself from accusations that he lied under oath during his bid to sue Mr Coulson’s former paper the News of the World over accusations in a story that he had visited a sex club in Manchester.

The politician was awarded £200,000 in damages in the 2006 defamation proceedings. Mr Sheridan alleged that private investigator Glenn Mulcaire was asked directly by News of the World executives to obtain confidential information about the Scottish politician.

Mr Mulcaire was later jailed for the phone-hacking scandal that took place during Mr Coulson’s tenure as editor of the paper.

Coulson, who is currently David Cameron’s head of communications, has repeatedly insisted he had no knowledge of the practise whilst he was editor.

Recently, the Metropolitan police handed new evidence on the scandal to the Crown Prosecution Service, indicating the controversy over the phone-hacking saga has yet to run out of steam.
