A former employee of the House of Commons fees office who forged expenses receipts in order to pay off debts has been jailed.

Andrew Gibson worked at the fees office in 2005 and forged signatures of MPs, including Tam Dalyell, then father of the House, in order to siphon expenses funds.

The forgery came to light after MPs were asked by the inquiry of Sir Thomas Legg to go over old claims at the height of the unrelated expenses scandal last year.

Mr Gibson’s forgeries were discovered and following an investigation he has now been sentenced by Southwark Crown Court to nine months imprisonment.

The former House of Commons employee is understood to have used the siphoned funds to pay off gambling debts.
