CPS to charge G20 police officer

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) have taken the decision to charge a police sergeant over an alleged assault during the G20 protests.
The charges relate to the alleged attack of Nicola Fisher, who was one of the protesters who was 'kettled' during the G20 demonstrations in London this April.
Ms Fisher claims to have been struck on the face and leg by police sergeant Delroy Smellie.
Images of the alleged assault were captured on film and were widely circulated in the media at the time.
In a statement today the CPS said: "The CPS reviewed a file of evidence provided by the Independent Police Complaints Commission following their investigation into Ms Fisher's allegation."
The case is due to be heard at the City of Westminster Magistrates Court on 16th November.
