A British diplomat caught in a sex video with two blonde prostitutes has been forced to quit his post in the Urals, Russia.

James Hudson, 37, Britain's deputy consul-general to the Urals, resigned after a local news website posted a video showing him engaged in sexual acts with two women believes to be prostitutes.

The video, entitled The Adventures of Mr Hudson in Russia, may be a cold-war style 'sting' against him by the KGB's successor, the FSB.

It shows him entering a hotel room believed to be in Ekaterinburg in a dressing gown. He opens a bottle of champagne before frolicking with the two prostitutes.

The video lasts four minutes and 18 seconds. Its highlight is when one of the two blondes, speaking in a heavy Russian accent, asks him: "Would you like it?"

A Foreign Office spokesman commented: "The FCO expects all its staff to demonstrate high levels of personal and professional integrity and takes all allegations of inappropriate behaviour seriously."
