Blair 'must give Iraq evidence in public'

Tony Blair must give his evidence to the Iraq war inquiry in public, according to the man chosen to chair the investigation.

Sir John Chilcot stressed that all but the most sensitive points must be kept public when he gives his account of events to the committee.

The former prime minister is understood to be a major reason why Gordon Brown wanted the inquiry conducted in private.

Mr Blair is believed to be concerned at being subjected to a "show trial" when the long-awaited inquiry begins.
