Disappointment for De Menezes family

The lack of disciplinary action taken against officers involving in the fatal shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes will not change, the police watchdog has announced.

Lawyers representing the family of Mr De Menezes, who was shot seven times in the head while sitting on a train in London Underground's Stockwell station in July 2005, had requested a review into the original decision not to take action.

That had been taken on the conclusion of the inquest into Mr De Menezes' death in December 2008. It found the Metropolitan police had mistaken Mr De Menezes for one of the failed bombers in the London bombings, which had taken place a fortnight earlier.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission said it stood by its decision not to recommend disciplinary action against the Met officers involved.

"In making this decision the IPCC has carefully considered the family's representations, the evidence identified by its own investigation and all subsequent legal proceedings," it said in a statement.
