True cost of Gaza-Israel conflict to be revealed

A report outlining the true cost of the Gaza war will be published today by a strategic research group.

Lord Alderice, a leading expert in conflict resolution, said revealing the full cost of the war is an important step in persuading Israel and Hamas to build a viable and durable peace process.

"Events over the last few days and weeks in Gaza have shown in graphic detail some of the all too real human suffering that conflict has wrought in the Middle East," he said.

"But television and radio reports can only show a small part of the costs of conflict in the Middle East, which are borne not only by people of the region but by the world community.

The full gamut of costs resulting from the conflict between Israel and Gaza - economic, human, military, environmental, social, political, diplomatic, psychological and other costs - have been factored into the report by the Strategic Foresight Group.

The study's authors hope it will make people wake up to the full scale of damage caused by war.
