No prosecutions for expenses MPs

Scotland Yard have said it is “highly unlikely” any successful prosecutions will be brought against MPs involved in the expenses scandal.
Following a joint investigation by the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) and Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) they said they would not pursue an investigation into allegations made against MPs, as they appeared to have provided accurate information on their claims.
“Unless evidence is available which shows individuals deliberately misled the Fees Office, it is highly unlikely that there could be a successful prosecution,” a spokesman said.
“However, there are a small number of allegations where questions remain about the probity of the claims, which will require further information before any decisions regarding investigations could be made.”
The MPS/CPS panel said it was for parliament to conduct internal investigations and if information came to light that the Fees Office had been deliberately misled it could be referred back to the MPS/CPS for further consideration.
