Derek Draper has quit his position as editor of LabourList, following the scandal over Damian McBride’s emails.

Mr Draper was one of the original recipients of the emails from Mr McBride, to which he replied: “Absolutely totally brilliant.”

He helped set up the site after working as a Labour spin doctor.

“Of course I regret ever receiving the infamous e-mail and I regret my stupid, hasty reply,” he said.

“Instead I should have said straight away that the idea was wrong.”

The prime minister has since apologised for the emails, claiming he played no part in their circulation.

Alex Smith will become the new editor.
