Green leak ally to face disciplinary hearing

Christopher Galley, the civil servant who passed information to Damian Green, will face a disciplinary hearing, despite being free of criminal charges.

Home Office sources confirmed to politics.co.uk's sister site, inthenews.co.uk this afternoon, that Mr Galley's case would now be handled internally.

This morning, officials from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed neither Mr Galley or Mr Green would face charges over the leaks, which did not affect national security.

There is a certain irony to the disciplinary inquiry, in that it was precisely this method which many opposition politicians said should have been adopted in the first place.

This afternoon, Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman Chris Huhne said: "This foolish complaint has wasted police time, tied up prosecutors unnecessarily and created a constitutional squall because of the searching of an MP's office - and all for a matter that should have been handled as an internal civil service disciplinary case."

Mr Galley, 26, passed on information to the shadow immigration minister which was used to embarrass the government.
