Osborne denies donor wrongdoing

George Osborne was forced to deny wrongdoing this morning after a newspaper claimed he had failed to register nearly £500,000 of donations.

The shadow chancellor received £487,000 of income from a “donors wish account” according to the Mail on Sunday.

Although all donations “expressly tied to the member by name” should be registered by MPs he failed to do so, claiming the Commons adviser responsible assured him he was acting correctly.

“These donations are to the Conservative party, they are openly declared and we have followed the rules as they were explained to us,” Mr Osborne said in a statement this morning.
