Police chief praises 'Team London'

Metropolitan police chief Sir Ian Blair praised the emergency rescue effort following the London bombs as a "remarkable team effort".

Speaking after a meeting with the Metropolitan police authority, the commissioner said "Team London" responded heroically, with all emergency departments working together with volunteers and members of the public to help control an "extraordinary story".

Sir Ian expressed his thanks to all those involved in the "greatest operational challenge since the second world war" and also for the "huge degree of public support" he received.

While he could not comment on the current investigations into the bombings on July 7th and the attempted bombings last week, the commissioner pointed to the nine arrests carried out this morning in Tooting as exemplary of the rapid nature of the anti-terror investigations.

The men were arrested under the Terrorism Act 2000 after anti-terror police executed search warrants at two separate addresses in the south London area.
