Darling appoints new Rail Passenger Council chair

Transport Secretary Alistair Darling has appointed Colin Foxall as the acting chairman of the Rail Passengers Council (RPC).

Mr Foxall, currently chairman of the Rail Passengers Committee in Wales, will chair the RPC in its existing form until the end of July, and the new RPC thereafter.

Under the provisions of the Railways Act 2005, the current RPC and its system of regional committees is being abolished and replaced by a single UK-wide organisation.

Mr Darling said: “I am pleased to appoint Colin Foxall as acting chair, and I know that his knowledge and experience will be vital in developing the Rail Passengers Council during this time of change.”

Mr Foxall replaces Stewart Francis who resigned as chairman due to ill health. The process of finding a permanent replacement for Mr Francis is currently underway.
