London Tories urge action on Eye dispute

The London Conservatives are urging Ken Livingstone to play a “more constructive role” in the ongoing dispute about the London Eye.

There has been a flurry of stories and counter stories about the future of the landmark after reports that the site’s owners were demanding a dramatic 3,800 per cent increase in rent.

Assembly Member Angie Bray, said: “This London Eye-row has now gone on for a week. It is damaging our Olympic Bid and our tourist industry. What does it take for New Labour to work this out?

“Ken Livingstone is in charge of London, Labour Peer Lord Hollick is in charge of where it stands and Tessa Jowell is Labour’s Culture Minister-yet none of them appear able to sort this out. We need some decent civic leadership-and we need it now.”
