UK trade deficit improves

The UK’s trade deficit has improved marginally according to the latest figures.

The Office for National Statistics said this morning the overall deficit in March had improved to £3.1 billion, down from a deficit of £3.5 billion in February.

The deficit with EU countries was virtually unchanged with the improvement coming from a better position with the rest of the world.

The export of British goods in March also rose by 3.5 per cent and the total imports of goods fell by 0.5 per cent.

The UK’s surplus on the export of services continued at £1.3 billion, down slightly on February.
