Global warming is happening

The Government's chief scientific adviser has reiterated his warning that global warming is happening, and human activity is to blame.

Writing in the RSPB's magazine, Sir David King said that climate change had become one of the four big threats to the world's wildlife along with habitat destruction, invasion by non-native species and over-exploitation by humans.

Sir David said: "The pattern of climate change that has been seen over the past 100 years or so cannot be accounted for, unless human activities are included in the calculations."

He added: "Effective action requires international agreement to curb future emissions radically, a process that would eventually need to engage the entire global population."
