New Conservative MPs will get a helping hand in the Commons, after the party leadership organised a series of seminars to show them the ropes.

Apart from explanations of Parliamentary rules, how many staff to hire and where to base your office, this year’s intake will also be given grounding in the finer points of working in the Commons.

According to The Times, long-serving Conservative MP John Burcow told the recruits to cheer rather than clap when in the Commons chamber, explaining: “We think of all the mistakes we made, that’s how we know what to tell them.”
