Hague's history book award

Former Conservative Party leader William Hague has won an award for his book William Pitt the Younger.

His book about William Pitt - Britain's Prime Minister during the French revolutionary and Napoleonic wars - beat off strong competition to win the history book of the year award.

It was chosen ahead of Max Hasting's book on Second World War Germany, Richard Holmes' account of a British solider on the Western Front during the First World War, and Charles Spencer's book about the Battle of Blenheim.

A relaxed Mr Hague is currently touring the country as part of the Conservative Party's election campaign.
