Five soldiers die in Iraq blast

Five troops from the US led coalition have been killed in an explosion west of Baghdad.

The US military has said a vehicle in which the soldiers were travelling ran over a bomb at the side of the road.

Police at the scene told reporters from the AFP news agency that no human remains have been found in the vehicle.

While the nationality of those killed has not been revealed the majority of soldiers in that region are US Marines.

Additionally several people, believed to be foreigners, have reportedly been attacked in Fallujah – also to the west of Baghdad.

Two cars came under fire and were set alight, reports indicate. One body is said to have been dragged from the vehicles.

Attackers were seen dancing around the cars and making the victory sign, witnesses said.

The cars were four-wheel drives, similar to those used by members of the US led authority in Iraq.

One witness report indicates that the insurgents fired at the vehicles with small arms.
