Saudi on alert amid new terror fears

The Foreign Office last night issued fresh guidance to travellers about the possibility of an imminent attack in Saudi Arabia.

Issuing travel advice, the department said terrorists were determined to carry out further attacks in the country and may be in the “final stages of preparation”.

It advises against all but essential travel to the kingdom.

Flag carrier British Airways cancelled flight 263 to Riyadh, due to fly on Monday afternoon, amid fears Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda terror network had targeted the aircraft.

Meanwhile Saudi police have successfully defused a bomb at an electricity distribution station in Riyadh, according to TV reports.

The bomb was reportedly found in the Sultana residential district.

At least 50 people have been killed in suicide attacks on Riyadh housing compounds in the last 12 months.
