37th Tokyo Motor Show opens

Over one and half million people are expected to visit the Tokyo Motor Show this year

The 37th Tokyo Motor Show opened to the public Saturday, with nearly 700 vehicles made by about 60 manufacturers from around the world on display.

The global event was held at Makuhari Messe Convention Centre, in Chiba Prefecture, in Japan.

The show lasts for 12 days until November the 5th.

The theme of the show is Driving Toward A Better Future. With this is mind manufacturers unveiled state-of-the-art eco-technology as typified in Toyota's hybrid passenger car, the Fine-N.

The hydrogen-powered Fine-N can travel over 300 miles on a single fuel charge - nearly twice the distance of previous versions.

Toyota also displayed the PM, a single-seat electric vehicle with an interior designed to fit the driver "almost like a glove."

Although the PM's original colour is silver, the PM can emit coloured lights to make it appear pink, green or blue.

Honda is exhibiting the FCX car, equipped with its FC Stack, a next-generation fuel cell stack.

Suzuki is displaying four concept cars. The S2, which is close to production, the S-Ride - a tandem two-seater combing the motorcycle and car, a futuristic 4x4 called Landbreeze and the Mobile Terrace.
