Pro-IDS website launched

Iain Duncan Smith's backers have launched a website dedicated to preserving his hold on the party.

Party activists launched www.backids.com.

The website includes features such as "10 reasons to back IDS", and "five ways you can back IDS."

The Tory leader is currently fighting for the right to lead the party amid rumours that a no confidence vote is imminent.

For a no confidence vote to take place, 25 Tory MPs must write to Sir Michael Spicer, chairman of the backbench 1922 committee, expressing disapproval at the present leadership.

There are reports this weekend that his fate will be decided next week at the latest.

The website reads: "We are Conservative members, activists and voters who back Iain Duncan Smith against the plotters trying to bring him down.

"We are convinced that Iain Duncan Smith is a person of the utmost integrity and principle.

"We believe that with the excellent policies that he has developed, Iain Duncan Smith can lead the Conservative Party to victory at the next election, but only if the current disloyalty stops.

"We call on the party to back Iain Duncan Smith or get out of his way."

Supporters of IDS on the website include Fiona Bruce of Warrington South Conservative Association, Guy Hordern, chairman of Edgbaston Conservative Association and Karen Lumley, prospective parliamentary candidate for Redditch.
