Two US soldiers killed in Iraq

The guerrilla warfare facing coalition troops in Iraq struck again as two US soldiers have been killed in Northern Iraq.

Reports are breaking that two soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division have been killed, whilst another was injured after a grenade attack.

The US military has confirmed that the division was travelling in a convoy near Tel Afar, west of Mosul, when the rocket-propelled grenades rained in on the troops.

The three casualties were rushed to a nearby military hospital, but the efforts to save two of them proved futile as they died soon after arrival. The third soldier remains in a serious condition.

The total number of US soldiers killed in action now stands at 151, with 34 of those coming since May 1st when George Bush claimed that the major combat was over.

The majority of the recent violence has come in the region known as the Sunni Triangle. This is one area where support for Saddam's regime remains strong. However, the latest ambush occurred to the north of this area

Of the attack, Lieutenant General Ricardo Sanchez said: "We learn from every engagement in order to learn to beat the enemy. Clearly, we are fighting and we expect that this will continue for a while."
