Testway housing putting residents' health at risk - Gidley

Romsey’s MP, Sandra Gidley, has today piled pressure on Testway Housing after it was uncovered that they have failed to remove asbestos from as many as 60 homes in Allan Grove and Chambers Avenue in the town.
Concerned residents have been told that the asbestos may be in their lofts and there are fears that fans sucking air from the loft spaces are blowing the fibres around the houses.
Writing to the Housing Association’s Chief Executive, Sandra said that the health of the families was paramount as the inhalation of asbestos fibers can cause serious illnesses, such as mesothelioma*.
Commenting today, Sandra said:
“Asbestos is extremely serious and poses a real danger to those who are exposed to it. Testway Housing should be ashamed that they have not acted over something so serious. Their behaviour is nothing short of disgraceful.
“Many families are now living in fear, and have lost many of their treasured belongings. They do not even know if they will be compensated.
“I have written to the Chief Executive demanding that action is taken immediately. It is no good claiming that the homes will be cleared as soon as possible – every day that passes is another day that these residents health is put at risk.”
