Linda Gilroy joins Asbestos Bill Committee

Tuesday, 30, Jun 2009 12:00

Linda Gilroy will this Wednesday sit on a Committee that will examine Damages (Asbestos-Related Conditions) Bill.

The Bill, which is being introduced from the backbenches by Labour MP Andrew Dismore, seeks to recognise pleural plaques - a scarring of the lungs caused by exposure to asbestos - as a compensatable illness.

The issue has resonance in Plymouth which has a particularly high number of people with asbestos related illness, due in part of exposure incurred through work in the dockyard.

Linda Gilroy said

“Asbestos related illnesses are a serious concern for many families living in Plymouth which is why I am pleased to sit on the committee that will consider amendments to this Bill”.
