Biography:

John Cummings stood down as MP for Easington in April 2010.

I am greatly privileged to represent the people of the Easington Constituency in the House of Commons.

I would like to welcome you to the web site of Easington Constituency Labour Party. I look forward to working with the local Labour Party to develop this service for Labour Party members and supporters in the Easington Constituency.

My role as the Member of Parliament includes representing the Easington Constituency and my constituents in Parliament by being actively accountable to my Constituency Party and the people of Easington, dealing with individual casework within the constituency and in making representations to Ministers and Government Departments over issues that affect my constituency.

Another important part of my role in Parliament is to hold the Government to account and I do this through tabling Parliamentary Questions, raising issues in debates, signing parliamentary motions and in questions and representations both written and in person to Ministers.

As part of my scrutiny role I serve as a member of the House of Commons Office of the Deputy Prime Minister Select Committee

which addresses issues such as the environment, local government, regional development and transport.

One of my main responsibilities is to work with individuals, partner organisations, trade unions and business organisations to encourage sustainable development within the Easington Constituency. In helping to develop and promote the domestic and international policies of the Labour Party to a wider audience I aim to encourage awareness of the work of Parliament.

Ensuring political accountability is vital to our democratic process and to the Labour Party. I seek to maintain an active presence in the constituency through my constituency office in Seaton Holme, Easington Village so as to be able to respond to constituents and Labour Party members problems and queries as appropriate.

I am always pleased to receive views and feedback from Labour Party members, Labour Party supporters and ordinary members of the public. There is an opportunity to participate in debates and to shape policy at the regular meetings of the General Management Committee of Easington Constituency Labour Party where I give my Parliamentary Report in person and answer questions and listen to contributions from members.
