Mencap - Disability report sets stage for radical change

Jo Williams, chief executive of learning disability charity Mencap, said the new government report 'Improving the life chances of disabled people' was "a radical report which will need radical change".
She said: "We welcome the recognition of the growing numbers of disabled children and many of these children will have profound and multiple learning disabilities. It is these children, and later these adults, who so often get inadequate support. It is crucial that if this report is to be fully implemented for all people with a disability, that resources are targeted towards this vulnerable group. Of course, adequate funding will be essential to deliver this radical vision. Future spending reviews must deliver for people with disabilities so that they are fully supported in their early years and throughout their adult lives."
