Tories: Language course decline a concern

Thursday, 21, Aug 2008 12:00

Maria Miller, shadow families minister, comments on this year's GCSE results:

"Teachers and pupils should be congratulated for this year's set of results. It is a stressful time in any family and they have all had to work hard for the results they have achieved.”

"The fall in the number of children taking foreign languages is of concern, particularly as we know from last year’s results that there is wide regional gap in those taking these exams. There are areas where fewer than one in four children are entered for a modern foreign language and it is the most disadvantaged families that are worst affected."
