Network Rail's track record on disruption to its services is under the spotlight today.

New figures from the Office of Rail Regulation (ORR) reveal record punctuality ratings for trains, with its public-performance measure at a record high of 90.1 per cent across the UK.

But the watchdog says Network Rail must also do more to minimise the impact its engineering works have on users.

It has been told to reduce disruption by 17 per cent within three years and 37 per cent within five years.

The ORR has already acted to punish Network Rail for its transport transgressions. It fined the firm £14 million after engineering overruns caused chaos in early January this year.
