Lib Dems: Figures mask major problems

Friday, 14 Mar 2008 13:00
The NHS' IT system rollout is suffering from a lack of confidence among staff on the ground, the Liberal Democrats claim.

Health spokesperson Norman Lamb said today's figures on expected savings of £1.14 billion by 2014 "mask very substantial problems" with the programme.

He cast doubt on the statistics, which he described as "extravagant spin", and said they would not compensate for "extra billions" of overspending on the scheme.

"The programme was flawed in its design and is putting the personal details of millions of patients at risk every day," Mr Lamb finished.

"The government cannot continue to charge ahead with this system, turning a blind eye to ever more stark warnings."
