Rammell: Govt doing best to help students

Tuesday, 08 Apr 2008 14:22
Higher education minister Bill Rammell says the government is "providing more help than ever before" to help children from low- and middle-income families into university.

Mr Rammell is seeking to highlight the financial assistance provided by the government to those seeking to enter higher education.

"Nobody should be deterred from entering higher education or realising their potential because of a fear of financial difficulty," he said.

"The government is introducing a package of additional financial help to achieve this ambition including greater access to non-repayable maintenance grants."

All students whose families have an income below £60,005 will be eligible for a partial or full grant, around two-thirds of the total.

"We want to support hard-working families that support their children," Mr Rammell pledged.
