FBMF: Expulsion is always bad

Monday, 07 Apr 2008 16:55
The principle of school exclusions has come under attack as the Conservatives publish plans to make excluding pupils easier for headteachers.

The From Boyhood to Manhood Foundation (FMBH), a London-based programme which seeks to help disaffected youths re-enter school and college, is opposed to the Conservative belief that exclusion is a solution to bad behaviour.

FBMH director Uanu Seshmi told the Today programme exclusion is a "quick solution" for teachers holding "pretty bad" consequences for the community and for young people.

"For the young people they will be exposed more to criminal activities, they will be exposed to more gang activities and for the community that is more trouble," he said.

"In fact a lot of young people would look forward to be excluded because they want to be on the street with their friends."
