CPAG: Moral courage needed

Monday, 03 Mar 2008 10:16
"Bold action" is needed to meet the government's target of halving child poverty by 2010, the Child Poverty Action Group's (CPAG) chief executive believes.

Kate Green says the work and pensions committee's report on child poverty, showing limited progress is being made shows Gordon Brown's goal can still be achieved.

But she says investment of £4 billion is required to ensure the promise is not broken.

"This is an excellent report with many important steps that will help Britain succeed in our historic goal of ending child poverty," she said.

"Britain has the wealth to end child poverty, it now requires the moral courage of the nation to ensure the necessary steps are taken."
