Lib Dems call for control of borders

The Liberal Democrats are calling for a tougher immigration policy and for the government to "get back control of our borders", following the House of Lords immigration report.

Shadow home secretary Chris Huhne claimed the government has lost track of the number of people who live in the UK.

"No wonder there is a total inability to manage immigration or create policies that deal with its effects," he commented.

Mr Huhne asserted that the south east of England is "now more densely populated than the Netherlands" and insisted the government "must get back control of our borders with an effective national border force and proper entry and exit checks".
