Hendell: McDonalds is doing its bit

Thursday, 24 Jul 2008 17:09
Britain's getting bigger and not in a good way
Nick Hendell, vice-president of communications for McDonalds, comments on the UK's obesity problem:

"We've been doing a fair bit for quite a few years actually.

"We put more choice in the menu. We have changed formulation – we've taken out fat, salt and sugar across many items but without changing taste. We've put better nutritional information on as well – and that comes down to the personal responsibility argument.

"There's been some pretty sensible things put in place. The advertising restriction got tightened up and that's quite right. We can still advertise because we've changed.

"The government's got strategies and programmes in place. We should let them run and see how it works out."
