SNP: Son of Trident is the wrong choice

Monday, 04, Dec 2006 12:00

The Scottish National Party (SNP) has warned that investing up to £20 billion in a new nuclear weapons system is a "terrible way to spend precious resources".

It was responding to Tony Blair's plans to replace Trident with a new, reduced, missile system by the mid 2020s.

SNP defence spokesman Angus Robertson said: "This government will proceed with its warped priority of investing in weapons of mass destruction before better local services.

"Son of Trident is the wrong choice for Scotland's future. It is a terrible way to spend precious resources and would be a bad decision to match Blair's determination to go to war in Iraq."
