Teachers' strike

Wednesday, 02 Apr 2008 10:12
Teachers to strike on April 24th
Teachers have voted to strike in a dispute over pay.

Members of England's largest teaching union voted for the one-day strike on April 24th, in the first walkout for 20 years.

Its members voted three to one in favour after a 32 per cent turnout.

The NUT is opposed to the government's pay deal and argues pay should be higher to reflect rising inflation and teachers' increasing workloads.

The government is appealing to the NUT not to strike and other unions have isolated the NUT by saying they accept the pay deal.
