Christian Congress for Traditional Values: Regulations threat to religious freedom

Tuesday, 09, Jan 2007 12:00

The Christian Congress for Traditional Values (CCTV) have said the sexual orientation regulations could force believers to act against their values.

The CCTV will join other religious groups at a protest outside parliament tonight against the laws, which prevent business from refusing to serve gay and lesbian customers.

In the House of Lords, Lord Morrow and Lord Mackay are supporting a motion to annul the laws.

Bishop Michael Reid, a founder member of CCTV, said: "I am delighted to hear Lord Mackay has supported our campaign and these regulations that would compel believers to promote and condone gay sex which is against their sacred beliefs."

"Christian, Muslim and Jewish believers are being denied the right to act on their conscience," he said.

Bishop Reid said the law created inequality because a religious guesthouse owner could refuse a room to an unmarried heterosexual couple but not to a homosexual couple.
