MCB: Terror warnings highlight need for 7/7 inquiry

Friday, 10, Nov 2006 12:00

An inquiry is needed into 7/7 to understand how "British Muslims became so radicalised", the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) has said.

Following MI5 head Eliza Manningham-Buller's warnings of a growing terror threat, MCB assistant general secretary Inayat Bunglawala told Today: "She's in a very responsible position.

"We know that there are times when people are quite fearful of the terror threat and if she's giving a warning there must be a purpose."

It was prudent to "assume that there may well be other cells out there planning acts of terror" he said, but stressed a public inquiry into 7/7 was needed because without one there would be no way of getting "to the root of what is causing this radicalisation".

He concluded: "I do not believe it is mosques, I do not believe it is faith schools. I do believe the internet is involved, but without an investigation we will not know."
