Conservatives: Report demolishes Labour's myths

The Conservative Party has jumped to support a new House of Lords economic affairs select committee report into the impact of immigration on the UK.
The report, The Economic Impact of Migration, finds migration to the UK has "little or no impact" on the country's economy and can even have a negative effect on low paid workers.
"This cross-party committee of distinguished peers, including a professor of Labour economics and former chancellors, have demolished the government’s case on several fronts," argued shadow home secretary, David Davis.
"They show unequivocally the benefits of the current immigration policy to ordinary UK citizens are largely non-existent.
"There are a series of long-term risks to the economy, not least the disincentive to train, and it presents absolutely no answer to the pension crisis."
In response to the report the party proposes restrictions on the number of global migrants allowed to enter the UK.
"We are delighted they say there should be an explicit target range for immigration through controls on non-EU applicants. This is a policy that we have been arguing for, for years and which the government has consistently rejected."
