Conservatives - Measures to tackle animal rights extremism long-overdue

Monday, 31, Jan 2005 12:00

Shadow Solicitor General, Jonathan Djanogly, today welcomed "long-overdue" measures announced by the Government to crackdown on animal rights extremists.

He said: "The measures announced today by the Government are welcome but long-overdue. For too long, company employees have had their lives made a misery by a minority of animal rights extremists, whose actions are a form of terrorism, and been ignored by this Government. We have long been calling on the Government to protect the industry, which makes a significant contribution to medical research. It is welcome that they have finally seen the importance of this issue, and we look forward to carefully scrutinising whether they have gone far enough to meet our demands."
