Cameron: I wouldn't rule out shooting galleries

David Cameron has today said he would consider introducing drug consumption rooms, or shooting galleries, where addicts could inject their drugs safely and hygienically.
The Conservative leader was speaking following a Joseph Rowntree Foundation report suggesting the rooms could cut the number of fatal overdoses and help addicts seek help.
"I certainly wouldn't rule them out because anything that helps get users off the streets and in touch with agencies that can provide treatment is worth looking at," he said.
"We should look at it as part of our policy review and ask 'Will it help get users off the streets and into treatment while cutting crime at the same time?"'
Mr Cameron was speaking at a clinic in London, where he said he was seeking to understand how addicts could be helped come off drugs.
"We support the system of diversion into treatment but currently the system does not seem to be working as well as it could," he added.
