UK growth figures
26/07/11
Britain's GDP grew by just 0.2% in the second quarter, leading to fears that the economy will slide back into recession.
In the previous three months the growth figure was 0.5% but the Office for National Statistics said certain unique factors had influenced the latest statistics.
These include the additional bank holiday for the royal wedding and Japanese earthquake which both had a negative effect, but also the record warm weather in April which was positive.
The news will increase pressure on the chancellor George Osborne over the merits of his extensive cuts programme.
