Tuition fees saga rolls on

The saga over tuition fees continues today, with David Willetts announcing the government's response to the Browne review.
The figure of a £9,000 cap was confirmed, though universities charging over £6,000 will be forced to provide extra scholarships for poorer students.
The Browne review had recommended lifting the cap on fees entirely, but the raising of the cap is unlikely to mollify Lib Dem jitters over the issue.
The party relies on a strong student constituency and faces anger over MPs' reneging on a pledge made before the election not to vote through an increase in fees.
The issue featured heavily at prime minister's questions today, as Ed Miliband challenged unhappy Lib Dems to vote against the government.
